Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and resulting non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH) represent a growing public health threat in resource-rich countries with severe clinical consequences. The burden of disease has not been reported so far in the French general population. The primary aim of this study was to assess the prevalence and risk factors of NAFLD in a large French population-based cohort by using non-invasive liver tests.
